The MA program in Security and Diplomacy at TAU got my attention when I was a third year student in China. Having studied international politics as my major in my bachelor’s degree, I was anticipating a unique overseas learning experience. Studying Security and Diplomacy at TAU exceeded my expectations, as Israel and Tel Aviv are so special and inviting, a completely different cultural experience from life in China. The rigorous and enjoyable courses, amazing field trips and classmates with diverse backgrounds were what satisfied me most about this program.

The background of the professors in the program is fabulous. Most of the professors completed their Ph.Ds. in globally leading universities, and some of them are world-class experts in military history, international law, strategic doctrine and Middle Eastern studies. Additionally, many of the professors are excellent both academically and professionally. For example, the professor who taught international law was personally involved in drafting the Israel-Egypt peace treaty when serving as official legal adviser. The scene of the peace negotiation was vividly presented, and he addressed the concerns and considerations of both sides. Furthermore, the program includes engaging lectures organized by TAU and INSS, which are also very instructive.

I think most applicants are impressed by the field trip portion of the program. When I applied for the program, I had high expectations for the field trips, and they fulfilled my expectations. The field trips bring to life the books and articles on the Israeli-Arab peace process and conflicts. The most incredible field trip experience in this program is the visit to Jerusalem and the security wall, which revealed the dilemmas of the conflict that are interweaved with security considerations, national sentiment and religious aspirations. I believe that the breathtaking field trips are an ideal practical learning experience for anyone who is interested to the Middle East region.

It was also a very special experience for me to have classmates from more than 15 countries and so much diversity among the group. Studying with a group of talented and interesting classmates makes this program even more enjoyable. Some of my classmates had combatant experience in the Iraq War and in Afghanistan, which provided me with a brand new perspective on the wars so frequently discussed by IR students. I believe this exemplifies the uniqueness that could not be provided by any other program.

My studies in Security and Diplomacy at TAU are approaching their end, and I really appreciate this unbelievable year. I recommend this program to any interested students.
